Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012 Adds Chrome, Dolphin and LinkedIn Support, Parses WAL Data

Oxygen Software updates Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012, the company’s flagship mobile forensic tool, adding forensic support for more applications. The newest release adds support for Google Chrome and Dolphin Web browsers as well as LinkedIn support. In addition, the new release of Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012 adds the ability to parse WAL files storing temporarily caches of mobile devices’ major databases.

According to Gartner, more than 45 billion mobile apps have been downloaded during the last year. Many applications keep sensitive user data in the phone, allowing forensic experts to access and analyze yet another source of information. With huge numbers of available applications, having forensic support for commonly used ones is extremely important for successful investigations. Oxygen remains committed to monitoring the mobile application market and adding forensic support for the most popular apps to its mobile forensic tool. This release adds support for three vastly popular apps used by millions customers throughout the world.

Dolphin and Google Chrome Support

Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012 adds support for two popular mobile Web browsers: Dolphin (iOS) and Google Chrome (iOS/Android). Available to users of the Analyst edition, support for two of the most popular mobile Web browsers greatly extends the amount of information available to investigators.

LinkedIn Support

In addition to extra Web browsers, the latest release of Oxygen’s mobile forensic suite adds support for LinkedIn, one of the most popular social networks targeted at business users. Available for iOS and Android devices, LinkedIn support allows investigators accessing data extracted from the corresponding mobile app and examine profiles, links, connections and communications between device owners and their LinkedIn contacts.

WAL Support

In addition to adding support for three more mobile applications, the latest release of Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012 boosts the ability to parse write-ahead logs (WAL files) available in mobile devices. WAL databases keep temporary cache of information to be written to major databases of mobile devices. Information available from parsed WAL files includes contacts, messages and application data. The added WAL file support opens an opportunity for experts to gather complete and up-to-date user information from the mobile devices under analysis. WAL support is available for SQLite databases and sections data in Oxygen Forensic® Suite 2012.
